Asimov and SF
Has any one had experiences where one book on the subject changes your whole Opinion on the subject?
I recently read a colection of short stories titled "winds of Change" written by Isaac Asimov.Incidentally it was also the first time i had ever read a book by Asimov. I have heard quite a lot about him, but somehow my lack of intrest in Science Fiction and Robotics made sure i never read one earlier. To be true, this collection was mind blowing. All my prejudices against Science fiction have waned since i have read this book. The best part of the book was the introduction/ prologue written for each story. Here he explains why he wrote the story and who/what was the motivation behind the story. That was kind of a trailer to the actual story itself.
Wow!his knowledge on the subject of Space travel,robotics... is amazing. His language is lucid and his style makes you sit back and finish the book right through before you put it down.He has an elegance to his writing that i have seen in only very few authors. He makes Science fiction look simple and easy to understand. The dosage is not too much but it is just the right mix to make the story sound real and SF at the same time. You could rip the SF part from the story and give it an earthly setting and it would still fit fine. Having become an Avid fan now, I am looking forward to read his other books. I bet that you read one and then you will confess that he is one of your favourite authors now.
