Hi,
An Indian discovered that nobody can create a folder
anywhere named as "con"
This is something pretty cool...and unbelievable... At Microsoft the
whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened!
Try it out yourself...
Regards
Peter

While it does feel good to know that it was an Indian who found it, I have always been Skeptical about the fact that we keep linking the Indian Origin to People who have settled in other Countries and made it good.
I am irritated everytime i read a news in Rediff or other papers that says- " Indian NRI wins ... in UK" or "person of Indian Origin Selected for ... in US"
First I am not sure how much of Indianness should be credited to their success. Obviously these people left India, have grown up and been supported by the countries where they live. Where does the Indianness in their Success come from?
A lot of kids ( of Indian Origin) who grow up in US have no idea about India, they grow up American or British every bit.
I cannot accept Prakash Amirtaraj Playing for the Indian Davis cup team. The only reason he is in the Indian Team and not the US team is coz, he is not a good enough player to play for the US team, and that Amirtaraj has enough influence in the selction of players for Davis cup team in India. These People change citizenship much faster than a chameleon changes its color.Chameleons are better in one aspect that they only change colours for the sake of their life.
India as a country can produce world beaters for itself. We don't need to borrow some fame out of others. Kalpana Chawla didnt become an Astronaut because she was of Indian origin. She was one because the land where she migrated accepted her and gave her the opportunity to grow. She would have become an astronaut even if she had been of somalian or Nepali origin. It's about what opportunities the land where you live gives you, and how you can utilize them. The credit should go to the country which gave her opportunity rather than to the one where she was born.
Sure these people could have a soft corner/ sense of belonging for the country of their origin, but lets not credit their success to Indianness.
Well it's only my point of View, I would surely like to hear others views.

"con"... that was interesting...
Good thoughts on the "Indian-ness" thing...
Relating someone to a country's orgin is something that people have been doing for ages. Its a worldwide phenomenon and not restricted to india or indian-ness (we find indian related stuff more because we are entangles in that media)... and the credit for the success is never given to the origin...
* sometimes yes, there are references which kinda hints that "its because of the origin that (s)he made a success", but thats more of reminding history, something like indians are good in maths (aryabhatta, ramanujam) and its a more general reference and a statement like indians are a bit smart in general...
* the references to indian-ness are more in artciles/websites that are based on the country's origin... for e.g., CNN rarely would have a headline which says "Indian NRI", etc., but rediff, timesofindia would have it...
* the reference to indian-ness is the only way people in india can relate to the article...
* if the person has been born and brought up in country throughout then it makes complete sense to give entire credit to that country... but things are a bit complex when someone has been partly here, partly there etc... in such cases we can't clearly define if it was because of the "opportunity" or its because of the "person being to able to grab the opportunity"...
my 2 paise...
CNN never does it becomes it acknowledges the fact that you migrated to another country and convinced yourself that you will become a citizen there and be a part of that land. This is also one of the reason we find many ABCD's.
Good point made suguna, 1 billion people but 7th best cricket team among 10 nations, 1 Tennis star, 1 olympic silver/bronze. Nobel prizes?? nothing that i know of lately. Where are we going?
I agree with you with respect to opurtunity than origin !! Just to answer you answer suguna's comments..instead of asking what did WE do i guess if each of us asks the question what did "I" do then probably india will have more tennis stars and more bronze medals...
I guess instead of shifting the blame towards a country and asking why there are no tennis stars, olympic stars etc, one must take responsibilites towards himself in acheiving things than pointing fingers
Well said Phoenix... I agree with you.. A country is made of ppl, if we look at it as ppl, its u, me and others.. not it excludes you :)
SO what your contribution to the country to make a great place ??
